How to Use the Slice Tool in Photoshop to Split One Photograph into Pieces

Let's take our cropped version of a Horse in Motion and split it into twelve uniformly-sized frames by using the Slice tool in Photoshop.

1) Select the Slice tool from the tool palette. The Slice tool is grouped under the same button as the Crop tool, so you may have to "press-and-hold" your mouse to find it.

Hover over the Crop tool and hold your mouse press to reveal more options.

The Slice tool icon is a knife.

 2) Using the Slice tool, draw a rectangle around the region that you'd like to "slice". Then, "right click" to show the Slice options menu. Select the "Divide Slice" option.

Right click on the Slice-selected image.

3) Select the appropriate number of horizontal and vertical divisions for your grid. The horizontal and vertical divisions will divide each length by the number of divisions.

Pick the appropriate number of slices.

4) Select "OK" to apply the slicing.

Each new frame is sequentially numbered.
